There are two main ways to express another person’s words: Direct Speech Indirect Speech (Reported Speech) Both are used for reporting, but they are used in different ways and follow different rules. 1. Direct Speech – Meaning & Explanation Direct Speech is the exact repetition of the speaker’s words. We quote exactly what the person said without changing anything.
