A VISIT TO A STUCK SHEEP~ Story Class 3 English literature
A VISIT TO A STUCK SHEEP
Baloo was a simple shepherd living in a village. He had
a flock of sheep which he kept in a pen close to his hut.
One day, he and his wife went to the market, but by
mistake they kept the door of their hut open. One of the left the pen and went
into the hut. As soon As she entered the hut, she smelt corn. She went to a corner
and found a pot. Peeping inside it, she saw a little corn right at the bottom.
The sheep put her head into the pot to get the corn;
her head got stuck and she could not get it out again. She began to bleat, but
there was no one nearby to hear her.
When Baloo and his wife returned home, they were
surprised to find the sheep standing in her hut with her head inside the pot. They
tried hard to pull it out, but they could not do so. Soon Baloo’s friends gathered
round the poor sheep. They tried to pull her head out, but they too failed.
Just then, A man came riding past on a camel. When he saw
the crowd of shepherds outside Baloo’s hut, he stopped and asked “what is the
matter, folks?”
“Sir’, said Baloo, ‘my sheep somehow got into my house
and put her head into a pot of corn. We cannot pull it out .will you please
advise us what we should do?”.
The man on the camel wanted to fool the villagers .he
said,’ I shall be glad to help you. It is quite easy to get the sheep’s head out
of the pot. But I must first be able to get into your hut. The door is too low
and my camel is too tall’.
Just then the village headman who was passing by saw
the crowd and heard the story. He also saw the man on the camel. He took Baloo
aside and said, ‘I know this man on the camel. He thinks +he is very important
man and wants to fool you. Ask him to go away’.
The man on the camel then quickly left the place. The village
headman saw the poor sheep. “Bring me a stone,” he said to one of the
villagers. A stone was brought and the man hit the pot with it.
Baa! Baa! Bleated the poor sheep as if to say . ’Thank
you master, thank you!’ and went out of the hut.
